Threatened care homes saved
July 28, 2011

LINk was delighted to learn that local care homes Birch Avenue and Woodland View, which were threatened with closure, have been saved. On July 5, NHS Sheffield decided that they will be ‘re-commissioned as providers of care for people with dementia who have complex care needs’. It has also agreed to make transitional arrangements so that none of the current residents in either home will need to move .

When the withdrawal of top-up fees to these homes was first proposed more than 4 moths ago, LINk decided to investigate the issue. We sent a formal ‘request for information’ to NHS Sheffield and undertook ‘enter and view’ visits to both homes. After a full consideration of the facts, LINk opposed the plans (see article on this).

Our opposition was picked up by the Star on May 30 and, as the decision drew closer, our support was reported in the same newspaper (July 1) as a significant event in the timeline for the campaign.

LINk want to recognise the great work done by the campaign group that spearheaded opposition to the plans and congratulate them on this positive outcome. Click here to see the full press release from NHS Sheffield.
