Local health budgets cut
August 2, 2011

LINk was concerned to discover that changes in the way the Government distributes its health budget will have an adverse effect on Sheffield. As reported in the Star on August 1, NHS Sheffield will stand to lose more than £14 million funding.

This was revealed in a document produced by public health bodies in Manchester assesseing the long-term impact of the Coalition Government’s decision to change the weighting system. At present, local PCTs receive more cash due to lower levels of health and wellbeing compared to more affluent towns and cities. Under the new arrangements, it appears that areas such as Sheffield will lose money while there will be an increase in funding for more affluent areas with Oxfordshire gaining £22.1 million and Kensington and Chelsea getting an extra £11.2 million.
