The Infection Control Action Group was formed after LINk members expressed concern about personal hand hygiene, especially in hospitals and care homes. Infection control is a particularly far-reaching topic that encompasses all services provided by the health services in Sheffield. The Group started its work by focusing on establishing strong relationships with providers of health services and now has a range of influential contacts with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, NHS Sheffield and the Care Quality Commission. We have used the knowledge from these key Sheffield health providers to help us formulate questions to use in our new questionnaire. While Sheffield seems to have a relatively good record in this area, we want to do an independent check and identify possible actions to recommend. Two members of the group have also undertaken 'enter and view' visit to the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire hospitals and made some recommendations.
