Care home funding consultation opens
February 1, 2011

NHS Sheffield is considering withdrawing its current 'top-up' funding arrangements to two local care homes - Birch Avenue and Woodland View care homes - that provide long term care for people with dementia. If this funding is withdrawn it would almost certainly mean the homes would close. The plans were discussed at their board meeting in December and a consultation period announced.

Due to widespread public concern, including that expressed by Sheffield LINk in the local press - the consultation period has been extended to four months, rather than the usual three and now ends on May 22. NHS Sheffield announced that the consultation will include individual discussions with families and staff, meetings at the two care homes and a chance for everyone to have their say by sending in their responses.  The consultation asks just two questions:

  1. views and arguments for and against the withdrawal of the extra funding NHS Sheffield provides, and
  2. if funding were to be withdrawn, on the steps that should be taken to ensure the safety, health and well being of the residents.
